Prototyping

Prototypes

Prototyping was one of 3D printing’s first applications and today remains a powerful product development tool. With improvements to material properties, surface finishes, and dimensional accuracy, 3D printing is increasingly used to produce working prototypes and to confirm tolerancing and assembly. Prototyping can be used to represent real objects in a simplified way or to produce scale models. This is the case in the automobile industry, architecture, and even topography, where 3D printing is used to represent an existing terrain in a 3D scale model. Another application is to confirm assembly and tolerancing. Marketing times are also cut and the resulting products are optimized for use.
